Our Legacy & Foundation
The Sisterhood of Saint Catherine for Women was established in Almishtaya Village in 1997 as a spiritual and social beacon, aiming to deepen faith-based values and strengthen bonds of love among the village’s women. From its inception, the Sisterhood has organized diverse activities blending spiritual and recreational dimensions, such as exploratory trips across Syria and Lebanon and visits to monasteries and holy sites, fostering meaningful connections among its members.
From Spirituality to Community Service
Visiting the sick and elderly, providing material and in-kind support.
Honoring mothers on Mother’s Day and celebrating women on special occasions.
Organizing an annual lunch for the elderly, a gesture highly appreciated by the community.
Achievements Beyond Borders
Supporting schools by securing fuel supplies and offering financial aid to students to cover tuition and transportation costs.
Active participation in the Castle and Valley Festival through a bazaar held at the historic St. Georges Monastery market.
Environmentally friendly projects, such as fabric recycling in collaboration with "Hanneh Atelier," and distributing waste barrels across the village’s streets.

A Sisterhood Transcending Locality
Inspired by the Sisterhood’s achievements, women from Almishtaya in Allentown, Pennsylvania, USA, established a branch under the same name. This branch became a vital supporter of projects in the original village, notably funding the installation of solar-powered streetlights throughout the village and distributing school supplies and backpacks to students of all grade levels.

The Sisterhood of Saint Catherine continues its journey with unwavering dedication, upholding the motto: “Love is our emblem, and giving is our goal.” It persistently seeks to enhance its initiatives for the benefit of the village community.
